Do I Need an MOT?

To be on the road, it is a legal requirement for all vehicles over 3 years old to have a valid MOT. The exception is vehicles built or registered more than 40 years ago; these are classed as classic cars and do not need an annual MOT as long as no substantial changes have been made to the vehicle in the last 30 years.

If your vehicle is between 3 and 40 years old, it must have an annual MOT test.
Driving on public roads without a valid MOT could result in a fine of up to £1,000. For driving a dangerous car, you can be fined up to £2,500. Furthermore, driving without an MOT invalidates your insurance, leaving you personally liable if you were involved in an accident.
